Germany trip
Hi
I'm planning a trip to Germany/France,Two weeks in total, the last few days I'm joining a group at the somme.Travelling alone, Crossing over Newcastle/ Ijmuiden, turning left and heading up the coast. I met a couple Germans here (Ireland) who said the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a nice area.
As I'm going Last week July, didnt want to head to far south to avoid the heat. Made the mistake a couple of years ago heading south in july was absolutley cooked !
Any advise on places, routes, must see.

Hi RobA. The area you mentioned is a flat land studded with loads of lakes and rivers, if memory serves me well. Nice but lacking in topography, so i'd recommend taking in some of the cities as well esp Rostock and the awesome Berlin. On the way back to France i'd swing back through the Harz mountains and Quedlingburg for a night, then through the Sauerland and the Ardennes.

Must have been a bunch of ex-GDR guys
Sorry, no pun intended In fact, I like that region very much. Kind of melancholic landscape, similar to north-west Poland (Masuren). In summer really nice, lots of lakes, forests. Like Pottsy recommended, check out the city centre of Rostock, maybe Stralsund, Schwerin (castle). The coast from Rostock via Prerow to Stralsund is pretty, so is the peninsula of Ruegen.
Quedlinburg is also well worth a visit. It was in shambles after the end of the GDR, but has been very neatly restored.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
