Giving a little back - Colombia
After organising my entire trip through the HUBB I figure it's probably about time I gave a little back. Here then are a few tips I garnered from my San Francisco to Santiago (Chile) trip, April 08 - Nov 08 on an 2008 KLR 650.
Colombia
Bogota to Salento - If you're in Bogota wondering whether to take the Routa 50 or 40 to approach Salento (in the heart of the Zona Cafetera), I highly recommend the former. Leaving Bogota on routa 50 was one of the riding highlights of the entire trip, empty roads (hardly any cars let alone trucks) and brilliant twisties for an 1.5hr. The trucks finally appeared as we reached Honda but until then riding bliss!
Los Nevados National Park - If you're thinking of doing a loop through the Los Nevados National Park (near Manizales), dont bother on a bike they wont let you in.
Routa 25 to Medellin (from Anserma onwards) - a slow over crowded road that took the best part of a day to complete. It wasn't so bad on the way back but felt a touch unsafe on the way there (ie overtake truck, sharp corner, brake hard, repeat).
