google earth

Whats with all this techno wizzardry stuff just to plan a route through Mexico and CA? If this is a first trip then a simple idea of where you wish to go is enough and can easily be worked up using a basic foldout map as supplied by AAA. Any and every road on there will be new to you and then , once you get to Mexico you can buy a PAPER road atlas by ROJI or QUIMERA in the scale range of 1 to 1.75 million or 2 million. Go. The only thing you really need to plan for is your entry and exit date, the in between stuff will take care of itself, you will be free to go where the mood, time constraints or the weather dictate.Sorry , this doesn't help you with your querry about googlearth, but try to keep it simple.

GE does not have routing capabilites outside the US and UK. Even if it did is not the best way to plan a trip and will not help you on the road when you are lost or have had the inevitable change of plans.

'We' (the royal one) don't know that. I don't think any anger was intended, just a point of view that the old paper maps are not to be dismissed.

Please take any advice as just that - a view from a point that does not see the whole picture. That is particularly relevant on the internet where language differences abound and complete information is never available to the responder. "We' miss the sights, gestures and smells of being there.

PS the title 'Veteran Traveller' is not one I'd give myself either.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
