Help planning Europe route

My partner and I are currently 16 months in to our trip, and seem to have found ourselves embarking on the European leg rather sooner than expected, after some visa problems. England was to be our ultimate destination, which had made the route planning for Europe much easier - draw a line roughly from Turkey to England and follow it.

However, we're now in England, waiting for the bike to arrive, and then have approx 10 weeks in Europe from mid March, to get back to England for the HUBB meet in mid June - and our route options just exploded...

We're both very keen to have a heavy focus towards Sweden and Norway, and t arrive around there around the stat of May, but would really appreciate some route advice to get ourselves from Calais, France (where the ferry arrives from England) to Tallinn, Estonia (where the ferry departs for Finland).

We're both keen on riding across the Alps where ever possible, but are aware that we're not really at the right time of the year.

Our focal points for this part of the trip are natural beauty, good riding roads and the potential to camp - this deep in to our trip we're not really able to afford to focus upon going to big cities and spending our diminishing cash on hotels and art galleries.

Help us plan our route!

I plan to do a similar trip in 2015, 14 weeks in Europe starting in March.

Not set on an itinerary, except that I will try to go along with the weather, hence probably keeping to the south in the beginning. I think there might be a ferry from England to Spain if you choose to consider the same.

Anyway, will follow this thread closely

Hey Guys,
i think your plans for Scandinavia are a bit enthusiastic, because the best riding time there is june to august. You can still have snow there in may and sometimes the pass-routes are closed.
The spring rises just in march for northern europe. So it could be cold and wet for days. In my opinion its best to go around the mountain regions in France, belgium and Germany, par example the Black Forest, Vosges, Eifel, Harz. an heading at the end of may towards scandinavia.
the alpes are best from july, because then the most of the high routes are cleaned from sniow and passable.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
