help with route - santander to uk
Hi all,
Can anyone help with suggestions for an enjoyable route from santander back to uk. two motorcyclists with pillions (BMW GS and Suzuki v-strom) got two weeks. Don't want to break any records. Just looking for a nice steady trip with time to stop and enjoy. Mountains villages good, motorways towns bad. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cliff.

I travel down to Spain yearly and always find it most enjoyable going down(or up) the Atlantic coast, close enough to get onto a Motorway if needed and always the chance to stop off and chill on a beach, once in northern France you then choose the ferry port of your choice.

The West coast of France is a bit dull really. I can recommend staying at Mimizan or Biscarosse if you do go up that side, but really with two weeks to spend I'd head East and ride up through the Alps.
Ride across the Pyranees to the med, then along to Monte Carlo. Head North through the Alps and you will have an awesome time.

Investigate the Pilgrim routes to/from Santiago de Compostela. The route through the north end of the Pyrenees is nice then just pick your way through France to the channel. There are lots of nice back roads which follow the old routes, pilgrim, drove and village to village with lots of pilgrim hostels which are really good value for money. As in all things, read up or google the old routes then enjoy the quiet and cheapness. (maybe) Ride safe.

Hey Cliff
I think I agree with others - you have loads of time with 2 weeks (you could do it in 2 days if you wanted) - so plenty of time to do an see things in a round about way. Agree that the atlantic coast is a bit dull in comparison to some of the routes up through the middle of France - but with time on your hands, I think the ride over to the Alps as suggested by Dave Ett is the way to go.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
