Kazakhstan without a bike but wanting one, any useful info?
Hi all,
I'm headed to Kazakhstan in August to attend my brother's wedding to a lovely Kazakh woman, and the wedding will be taking place in the southern region west of Almaty, very near where the Uzbek and Kyrgyzstani borders meet with Kazakhstan. I have always been attracted to the idea of Mongolia but had never considered Kazakhstan at all until it was brought into my family and now I'm hugely excited about the prospect of being there. I would feel remiss if I didn't explore the option of finding a place to get ahold of a bike to go on a short tour while I'm there. I haven't got the time or funds to ride between Kazakhstan and the UK unfortunately.
Does anyone know if there is any sort of bike hire or short tours? I would be looking focusing around Almaty. I have run across Silk Offroad tours who unfortunately will be running their august tour right up to wedding day, so that's not an option. I'm not necessarily interested in just offroad all the time away from people.
Also, as I'd probably be travelling alone, if anyone knows how a solo female would find things in that country I'd love to hear.
Thanks!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
