Korea to Ireland
Hi All,
I’m looking at doing a trip in 2014, I’ve been on this website for couple years now reading it most days and looking for inspiration. I’ve been trying to decide between either Korea – Ireland or Cape Town to Ireland nad have been on here before looking for advice on each route
I live in Brisbane Australia and will be shipping my car from here to commence the trip, I’m now leaning towards the Korea – Ireland trip as it may be a bit easier for the novice overland traveler, I’m pretty much certain now that I will do Korea – Ireland with a May 2014 departure, its pretty much now or never the stage of my life I’m at and its been a long held dream to do this.
The reason for the Korea – Ireland trip rather than Brisbane to Ireland is that I wish to avoid to costs of going thru China so I plan on backpacking up thru south east asis prior to collecting my car in Korea, I’ve decided to ship to Korea to save costs on shipping to Vladivostok.
So I’ve chickened out of the African trip (at this stage) but still want to add some adventure so instead of going from Vladivostok straight thru Russia to Eastern Europe then Ireland I’m looking at doing the following,
Russia – Mongolia – Russia – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey-Greece-Albania-Macedonia-Bulgari-Serbia-Montenegro-Bosnia-Croatia-Slovenia-Italy-Switwerland-Germany-Netherdnals-UK-Ireland
So I don’t want to be too pushy but I have 4 questions to ask,
1. How would my visa stargey work? I’m thinking the following,
Russia - 12month multiple entry visa prior to leaving Australia backpacking for 3months before collecting the car
Mongolia – Visa in embassy in South East Asia/Korea
Kazahstan – Possibly now visa free?
Uzbekistan – Get this visa in Kazakhstan?
Turkmenistan – get this visa in Kazakhstan?
Iran – Get a pre approval number and obtain visa where? Do I need exact entry exit dates
2. I’d like a route with some 4wd and off road i.e adventours road anyone have any recommended routes?
3. Safety – anyone have any safety concerns about that route
4. Is it the wrong decision would cape town to Ireland be better?
5. Best place for insurance in the EU on Australia reg car
Sorry I know it’s a lot of questions and I have spent hrs upon hrs on the net researching but I suppose some recent first hand information would be good
Any advice anyone could give would be great, I know from reading most of your trips that planning can be the most exciting part,
If anyone wants any travel advise about Australia please feel free to ask, I havent travelled to many places to make valuable contributions to the site as yet
Thanks again

Hello,
Things always change so fast in this part of the world so long term exact planning is almost impossible..That may be the reason of the silence here.
I can say:
1- Your route is perfect, safe covering all the colours in the area.
2- Best time to enter Turkey from east is May.
3- Dont miss mt.ararat, noahs ark and ishakpaşa mosque while at doğubeyazıt...
4- Highly recommend buy your green card at dogubeyazıt so you dont need to pay extra for Turkish road insurance while entering Turkey..Turkish touring club has an office at this bordergate to Iran..

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
