North Africa!

Hello,
I am posting with a query about travelling across North Africa. I am in the process of putting together a trip from originating in the UK to Egypt. However, I hope to be able to enter North Africa via Morocoo, and travel through Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and enter Egypt. To get back to Europe I am aware that travelling from Egypt into Israel, then onto Jordan and up into Turkey is an option, but complicated. Alternatively I was thinking of getting a ferry from Haifa to Cyprus and on to Turkey and back to Europe. I understand that the Morocan border with Algeria is and will remain closed for the foreseable future, but some people have mentioned going via Mauritania. I am aware of the dangerous aspects of the journey, however, I do feel that the journey is possible and achievable. I would greatly appreciate any views or input/advice that you could provide. I am a British citizen, and am I over 21.

I doubt you are aware of them all. If this is your first trip to Africa, then here´s a simple tip: forget that route.

Have a look here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-shortly-55884

I, too, am hoping to go to Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia in the future - we'll have to wait and see as to whether the boarder closure changes :confused1:

Nice but not

a good plan, unfortunately

The only "open" border to Algerie is In Guezzam, coming south from Niger. But nowadays...

I came through in 2007, and I recently read about two Australians that managed to get through in 2010, and theres probably a few more.

But, there is a big but. I agree with pecha72, forget the Mauri idea

Give it a go.

We can't all be going through the known and accepted routes

If you cannot cross via Mauritania, you can always cross into Mali, Niger and then back up into Algeria.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
