Overland uk to Malaysia
Three friends and I are in the early stages of planing a fully overland driving trip in a Land Rover discovery 1 Full Camel trophy spec, the route how ever does seem to be quite dangerous as it passes through Northern Afghanistan, Pakistan and india. The full list of countries is uk to continental Europe – Belarus- Russia – Kazakhstan – Kyrgyzstan – Tajikistan – Afghanistan (wakhen corridor) – Pakistan – india – Nepal – india – Burma – Thailand – Malaysia then get the Land rover shipped back to the Uk
.
the reason that we are not going through china is due to cost at around £5000.
is this the best route to take or are there any suggestions on what to change and what to look out for and so on.
also does any one know what are the most common faults of a disco 1 200/300tdi?
And in what countries is car insurance mandatory?

All is possible except the Afghanistan part, you will have to cut the corner of China between Kyrgystan and Pakistan, not sure of the cost but teaming up with other vehicles brings it down, you could also go Iran to Pakistan but Brits are required to have a guide there now as well.
Insurance at least in theory compulsory in every country and usually available on the border when entering.
Most or all of your questions will have been answered here somewhere but the best place to get it all at once is to go the the HUBB meeting in Wales where there will be people who have already done this trip and will be happy to tell you everything you need to know.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
