Phoenix to Sayulita

Looking for route options in Mexico. I can cross the border in the early morning south of Tucson on March 9. I need to be in Sayulita on March 11 at supper time so I have 3 days of riding available. I also have 3 days of riding available to me on the return back where the destination will be Phoenix. Along the way I would like to cover the Durango to Mazatlan ride or in the reverse.

I read about the ride from Banamichi to Mazatlan which sounded worthwhile. Is this worth doing. Am I better just heading to the coast and forgetting this idea? Go down one way and return another? Being new to riding in Mexico I am really unsure and don't want to return only to hear I had better options available to me.

What say you riders who have many Mexican miles under your belts? If anyone has any input on these routes or others it would be appreciated. I will be riding a 1200 GSA and it will be a solo ride. Thanks :confused1:

Save the Durango to Mazatlan ride for another time.
Here is an example from my diary of my ride from PV to Tucson last spring...PV to Mazatlan 450kms, 9hrs on the free road, you could shave 2 hours on the toll road? Mazatlan to Ciudad Obregon 600kms, free road to Cuilacan then toll road to Cd Obregon 9 hours. Obregon to Tucson, did not record the kms but took 10 hours. Did not cancel TVIP as I was going back down to Moctezuma.

So if this is your first ride in Mexico and you need to make distance stay on the toll roads and dont stop to take picturesThe tolls do add up for example Culiacan to Obregon was 200 pesos.
The Las Parillas resturant in Obregon is worth a stop fast and good! Its right on the highway through town.
This little trip you are planning will just make you want to come back when you can do it justice. On your way back if you could take 1 or 2 days more the ride from Hermosillo to Moctezuma on Hwy 14 is a pleasure!
Then you ride 17 north to Agua Prieta turn in your TVIP and ride back to Phoenix

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
