Poland to Austria
Part of my "Return to the Great Escape" trip is to ride from Krakow to Werfen in Austria where the film "Where Eagles Dare" was filmed.
Which is the nicest route to take - through the Czech Republic or dip down and do it through Slovakia??
Any suggestions will be grateful
Dave

I reckon head south from Krakow to Zakopane and over the Tatras into Slovakia. What else have you planned on your Great Escape trip? I've been to Zagan a couple of times.

depends what time of year you are going . the route from zakopene to slovakia through the valleys is hard going when hot , think 40+ in the summer months . intresting sights along the way , prostitutes flashing their bits as you ride past and also approaching you if you fuel up and offering an eyeful .
The Czech version would be good , via olomouc ( nice city) , cesky krumlov and then into austria north ish of vienna .
Either way it will be fun

going the other way I visited the church of bones in Czech republic and the "Flytrap" near Nowa Ruda Poland. both very odd places in completely different ways.
If you did flytrap, church you could continue and cross over near titmoning in Germany or go direct to Austria.

Thanks for all those good ideas, I will certainly check out the different ideas, thanks to all - I remember the Church of Bones from Long Way Down so might visit that. Tourider asks what else I have planned.
My friend and I are going to Moto GP at Assen end of June then we start our journey visiting the Bridge at Arnham - Neudhausen Missile Caves - One of the Dambusters dams - Colditz Castle - Zagan Stalag Luft III - Auschwitz - Werfen (Where Eagles Dare) - Fussen (Great Escape Film locations) - Switzerland passes and finally the Normandy Beaches.

About halfway between the Mohne Dam and Colditz (near Nordinghausen)is Mittelbau-Dora work camp. It's the underground V1 and V2 factory, worth a stop off.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
