Poland to Lithuania
I am trying to learn about this border crossing north of Suwalki. I will be leaving Augustow Poland on July 12th heading for Rezekne, Latvia. I am trying to get any information about this route, as I've read about difficulties at the Lithuanian border. I am open to any recommendations about the route, insurance (I carry Green card), documents, etc..... anything you think might be helpful. Can anyone tell me about road conditions or how long the trip between the cities will take? Thanks, Jon

Poland to Lithuania.
We travelled in the other direction last year. Crossed Sweden and a ferry to Tallin. Tallin (Estonia) and rode down to Rezekne in an easy day taking in lots of minor roads. We then rode down through Lithuania and into Poland the following day (Ketrzyn). Crossed the border at the next road east from where you plan to cross at Sejny. Had no problem with any of the borders. Some of the minor roads were not sealed roads and only had tarmac through the villages. If you need any more information, contact me.
Have a good trip.

Although I don't know this particular border crossing, it should be smooth as a silk like all other crossings internal to EU. AFAIK it will disappear anyway within 9 months like those between Western European countries in the past. Green Card solves all insurance issues.

Yes it is, and loaded with tourists. It's a good idea to book a hotel before coming here.
Have a safe trip,
Kris

Hi Paul M
How long did the trip take you in all? I'm doing a similar one this july and am keen for some advice on ferries and places to see/

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
