Portugal-India-Portugal 2015

Hi everyone, until a few weeks ago I was living in Australia where I was about to start a journey from Australia to Portugal overland. Unfortunately I had to come back to Portugal in a hurry and I couldn't do the trip I've been dreaming for so long. However since I have already put so much work to make this trip happen, I decided to go from Portugal to India and back instead.

I had to plan my itinerary again: Portugal - Spain - France - Italy - Slovenia - Croatia - Serbia - Romania - Bulgaria - Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - India - Bangladesh - Nepal - India - Pakistan - ??? - Russia - Finland - Sweden - Denmark - Germany - France - Spain - Portugal.

I'm still not sure wether go through Quetta, Pakistan after Iran or the follow the 'Stans' and then Pakistan, but I guess I'll have time to decide once I get there.

My problem is what to do when I leave India on my way back to Europe. I'd really like to do the Karakoram Highway and then follow the Silk Route to Russia, but I'm not sure what route to follow, so maybe you guys can help.

P.s. I'll try to update this topic with photos and stories of the road, the people and places I find along the way, as well as videos and other musings. Here's a video with my preparation so far.

Big thanks for your help. And if anyone wants to join let me know.

What type of vehicle are you planning to use ? I am planning a similar route leaving from Austria..mid April ..with expedition vehicle following 2 motorcycles. We are from the US so Iran may be a problem for us. I traveled through Iran about 4 yrs ago but it was with the Globebusters group. I will be applying for a Visa soon so will see what happens. would be interested in talking to you more about your trip. bj

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
