russian visa?
ok, our trip plans are moving forward at a better pace now. we have started our injections and the bike is almost finished.
we are still waiting for the logbook but they have said it should be only 4 weeks still serves me right for buying a bike that was regesterd as a scooter combination insted of a r80 bmw .
but my question is, is there a easy way to get a visa to enter russia, everone i have spoken to so far has said we need a place to say we are going to and staying at. but we don`t have any set times to be anywhere and we are hoping to camp as much as possable to keep the cost down
i emailed the russian embassy and they say there is no open visa`s.
anyone?

you can buy and official invite online. I got a 3 month business visa from these guys, very helpful and efficient
Russian Visa Guide | waytorussia.net
I then got my visa in Thessoloniki Greece - you are supposed to get it in your home country but depending on the embassy a little persistence will get you the visa, be prepared to go back a few days running.
You will need to show the original document (not printed copy) to the Russian embassy unless you're in your home country.
Hope this helps- Jen

DIY visa for Russia
Hello to all in 2009 I went through Russia unfortunately not on my bike but on the Tras-Siberian. I arranged the visa by myself downloading the application forms VIA a link on seat61.com and paid $10 for my invitation to Russia again from a link from seat61. The whole visa cost me £55. from the Russian embassy I did go in person though and waited a couple of hours to see someone who was very helpful and assured me that everything was filled in correctly. I was told that it would take up tp 14 days to receive my visa through the post but got it 2 days later. The only thing to remember with Russia is that if you are going to stay in the one place for 3 days or more you must registar with the police and always always have all your documentation with you, also its a good idea if you are stopped by the police to claim that you dont understand and say go to the police station keep repeating this and invariably the policeman will tell you to go on your way and be careful. I am not saying all Russian police are corrupt and only see tourists as cash cows but believe me quite a few do think like this.
Ride Safe
Regards Bill

You can apply for your visa 45 days before you want it to start. This is OK but, if like us, you go UK east to west it means that your via is already ticking before you actually get to Russia. However, this is not much of a problem because with a 6 month multi entry you can only be in the country for a maximum of 90 days in total anyway.
