For roads up to Scotland, try the A68 from Corbridge (visit Hadrians Wall?) north, just believe the warnings about the humps in the road, and the number of speed cameras increases dramatically north of the border.

Yeah, avoid the A68 north of Carter Bar. Turn off there for Hawick and pick up the A7. A much better way up to Edinburgh.

Highlands, North, and Western Isles are all worth seeing.
Amazing roads all over the place, and most are rideable 'at pace' just stay away from the dual carriageways and motorways which are full of speed cameras and camera vans.
If you want cheap accommodation with a Highlands Base in the Cairngorms area where there are many good roads try Kingussie near Aviemore. Cheaper hotels/bunkhouses/bothies and good food/ in the pubs.
In Inverness accommodation will be expensive in Summer, but there are still deals to be had. A great place for a stopover or to base from for riding Loch Ness area.
Go north up to Ullapool and then over on the ferry to Stornoway, then ride Lewis/Harris and catch the ferry again to Skye, then ride Skye and head back to Inverness via the bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh.
If anyone needs recommendations for decent food/drink/rooms places in those areas or on the East Coast just ask.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
