Seeking advice for first trip - Cape to Cairo from Australia
Hi all, newbie question.
My wife and I are excited about the prospect of an African trip as our first , but I'm not sure what would be the best way to do it regarding bike purchase etc.
We currently don't own suitable bikes, so my first concept was to look at buying some in South Africa and riding them north to Cairo. I was thinking some 650GS's or something like that. The problem is, I can't figure out what we'd do with them when we got there. Can you sell bikes with any sort of ease in Cairo, what are the legalities of selling a bike in another country, would we have to import them to Egypt? I guess we would stand to lose a lot of money, especially if we had to spend a fair bit of money to kit them out for overland in SA when we bought them.
Or maybe we should consider keeping them and shipping them back to Aus ready for the next trip, does anyone know how much (ballpark) this would cost? I had a look on the shipping page, but couldn't see any information there on Africa to Oceania or vice versa.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Bob.
