Silk Road Literature

Hello there.

I'm having a look for some literature on driving the Silk Road. I'm looking for both inspirational and guide books. Are there any that you guys can recommend?

I'm also having a good browse of the web, but if theres anything out there that you think I must read then thats cool too

We're doing the journey in defender if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Ollie

Silk Road

Ollie,
China the Silk Routes by Peter Neville-Hadley Pub. Cadogan and its English so should be available somewhere in London.
The Silk Road by Judy Bonavia Pub. Odyssey Hong Kong co so it may be available In GB too.
The Silk Road is a booklet I picked up in Dunhuang in a book store, both English and Chinese. Not sure of these: xing-lv@163.com , or tel. 010-6520117,fax 010-65256624 . This is a travel booklet but one I enjoyed very much.
We did the Silk Road by BMW Motorcycle about 3 years ago.so all of these books have probably been surpassed. Had a wonderful time. Enjoy.
Allen.

I found Paul Wilsons Route and Planning guide to the Silk Roads a very good and useful guide in planning my upcoming september trip across Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and India.

http://trailblazer-guides.com/books/main.html/main/43

Its published by the same company that do Chris Scott's Adventure Motorcycling Handbook

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
