Sochi to Batumi ferry ..

In a couple of days me and two friends are starting a trip from Serbia to Azerbaijan.Planning to go from Russia to Georgia by ferry from Sochi to Batumi (avoiding Aphazia) ... Did anyone take that ferry? And what`s the latest situation for boarder crossing between those two countries? We have Russian visas as well, and find out that there is no problem to obtain Georgian visa at the boarder .. This is true ?

Sochi to Batumi

As far as I know, it is not possible to pass the border by land and there is no ferry between !

If you know there is, pls. let us know...

Best,

Sochi to Trabzon

Was at that border a few weeks ago. You can get into Abhasi and it is beautiful. If you are lucky you can get from there into Georgia, but when you leave Georgia, you will be told you entered illegally and it will cost you big money.
The boat from Sochi to Poti is called Svetlov, but when I was there they told me it wasn't running anymore. A boat from Sochi to Trabzon (Turkey) will cost you 5895 rouble for you (1 person), the bike and a private cabin. Entry into Turkey is the price of your visa (around 10euros for british 15euros for Aussie) and 10 euros for insurance for the bike.
Then a few hours ride north, and you will reach Batumi. Visa at border, but tell them you want 20 days for the bike, otherwise they will give you 10days. It is all free and easily arranged.
Seeing as you pay for a visa and insurance in Turkey, I would recommend hanging around for a few days and seeing stuff. Nice Monastary near Trabzon, and if you could be bothered "Anzer" is really nice. Otherwise, Camilhemsin is not far away and there is beautiful scenery and easy free camping nearby.

Hope this helps and is not too late

Tracey

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
