Trans Africa Duration
This is a re-post, but this time to the correct group!
--
A simple question, with a hundred answers I'm sure!
I'm planning a trans-Africa trip for 2004. The route is roughly as follows (despot dependant...) Maroc, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa.
I'm wondering how much time to allow for this, or maybe the question I should ask is "how fast can you do this?". While I don't plan to race, I can only take 4-6 months, which will be enough time to deal with the bureaucracy through Africa, but will it give me enough time to appreciate the trip.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's made this trip in the 4-6 month timeframe and if you thought it was too rushed...
Cheers,
Nick.

Hey- did you get any replies? We are planning something similar but in July. We don't know how to go from Cameroon (or anywhere in the west) to the east. We are from the U.S. Thanks for your help. After we make it, we will share anyinfo you need.

Six months is plenty. It took me five months and six days from London to Cape Town down the west coast, and back to London via the east coast of Africa on a BMW F650. More info bauswe@yahoo.com.

For such a trip i calculate around 9 months, with 22 borders i calculate a day per border. Its about 35.000 km, and you only do an average of 150 km. a day.....
regards Derek-Jan, leaving the end of the year for cape town.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
