Trans-Siberia/Amur Highway in November?
Hey all,
I'm wondering about road and snow conditions on the Russian highway from Irkutsk to Vladivostok. I am already on the road and it looks like I wouldn't be able to start this stretch until November - coming up from Mongolia. Obviously not the easiest time of year to travel in this part of the world! Am I dreaming or is this route completely closed by snow in winter? I don't mind the cold and I am prepared for crap weather, but not prepared to ride over pure snow for days on end. I just wonder what sort of pace I would make based on road conditions. I've read that the most remote section is 2000 km between Chita and Khabarovsk. Has anybody here been on this route in November or early December? When it snows, do they plow or clear it from the highway, or is it just impassable for all the trucks through the winter season? I guess my main question is just, how much snow on the road...? If there's a blizzard and I have to wait 3 days until a snow-plow comes through from 1000 km away, that's fine! But do they clear it at all even?
Thanks!
