Ukraine - any helpful tips?

Heading off to Ukraine and back this summer from London. Can't find the sort of helpful info such as on the Morocco threads.

Can anyone give me a heads-up on stuff through Germany, Poland, Moldova and Ukraine?

Stuff?

I guess Transnistria is still worth avoiding. I've heard Chisinau is a really cool place; I'd planned to travel myself in late May to see the Ukrainian Sidecar Motocross GP but had to cancel.

What info do you need?

Hi Nigel,

We did the western part of the Ukraine in 2011 as part of a 5 mth trip, entering from Romania from Siret and made our way first to Chernivtsi, then cross country to Ternopil, and spent time in Lviv. Crossed into Poland, and did all of eastern Poland from there to Krakow and then onto Auschwitz before entering the Czech Republic.
You are asking a big question re: "heads up on stuff", so perhaps you can clarify what you are interested in seeing, destinations, roads, culture, sporting events, food, then responders like myself can provide some good detail.
For starters if you visit our blog at Two Wheels move the Soul
look down the right hand side of the front page, click on 2011, then August, you will see all our entries which includes the ares you mentioned in your post.
I'd be happy to help.
If the Ukraine isn't a destination itself, (a specific location) then be aware you'll be driving on some of the worst roads, and terrible border crossings (read blog). We had some advantages that you won't have in making things work.

Romania in our opinion is a much more interesting destination country.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
