Which way is the cheaper to cross the sea? pacific? atlantic?

Hello, Im dreaming to do a RTW 2up with my girlfriend next year, with a very low budget, and I'm trying to make the best route. My principal concern is the water-crossing... I hate seas!!! they not let us go and go anywhere!!!

we are from Santiago, Chile, and this will be our starting point, and this will be our first overland experience, I just did last year Santiago-Cusco solo on a KLR250, and this summer (your winter) is very probable that we go to torres del Paine from Puerto Montt

and this is my very first answer:
what is the cheapest way to cross the ocean to another continent? south america to africa? or vice verza? south america to europe? or vice verza? north america to aurope? or vice verza? north america to asia? of virce verza? this answer will define my plans... if is cheaper from N.A. to europe, we ride to USA or Canada first and then cross the sea, the same if the cheaper is from N.A. to Asia.

If is cheaper from S.america to africa or europe I imagine the better place to cross the ocean must be brasil so we will ride to brasil to catch the plane or vessel...

it's so complicated!

and the same question I read so many times: air or sea?

we are totally flexible with this issue, we can (and we like) combine ways to cross.

if anybody who really had the experience and knowledge in this topic, we will very grateful

and sorry for my crapy english

cheers!

hola zaplaje.

i can only answer part of your question, but there is much info elsewhere on this site to answer the rest.

this time last year we sent a bmw r1100gs from valparaiso to melbourne, australia by sea. it cost us about USD1000 in total, and took about 5 weeks.

cheers,
andy.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
