Laos into Cambodia border
Hi,

Anybody thinking that they can cross this border must think again, the guy in charge on the Cambodian side would not let his own mother through so we overlanders have no chance unless you have a big wedge of cash to give him.
I have written to the Cambodian under minister of state to complain about him (giving his name and number) but I don't think it has helped much.

Anyway good luck to anybody that fancies the 3 hour trip from Paksi to the border and 3 hours back.

Its been like that for quite a while. I travelled Laos from north to south in the beginning og 2015 and my intention was to cross directly over from Laos to Cambodia, but I heard so many stories of travellers who had been denied crossing there and I actually spoke to two different ones and both was denied entry so I chose to not even try. I crossed over to Thailand and rode to Surin province in Thailand and crossed over to Cambodia there.

Its a real PITA as nowadays your hardly allowed to cross Thailand more than once, if youre really lucky twice, but trice would never happen as the rules snd regulations are nowadays. So an overlander coming from Myanmar, crossing over to Laos and then wanting to cross into Cambodia one will have to go through Thailand again and then into Cambodia. And he/she would have to cross Thailand a third time to continue to Malaysia. And that is totally impossible nowadays.
Crossing the opposite direction didnt use to be any problem and hopefully still is posible.

Good to hear that, so at the moment its best to cross from cambodia to laos, if you want to travel both countries?

No it is not possible to cross in either direction without a handful of money and hours in the capital arranging the paper work first.

Yes official people in Laos and Cambodia are very keen on money. They also refused us to cross with a vietnam registered bike.
With a bribe of 20 Dollars i could finally cross after selling the bike:

Gents, thought i should post a quick update on the Laos / Cambodia border crossing at Stung Treng. I crossed here yesterday 31/12/16 with no problems at all. I am an Australian riding a Dubai registered R1200GS. I needed a carnet and a few coins but that was all. My advice -
Have a carnet for foreign registered bike,
Have some small note US dollars. All up cost was US$8 for 4 x $2 stamps,
Pay the gratuity and don't argue,
Don't be arrogant.

Did you cross from Laos to Cambo - or in the opposite direction?

The problem havent been about a little tea-money afaik but about that border staff demanded a permit from official authorities in Phnom Penh. (Travelling from Laos to Cambo)

But it would be great off course if this border at least would be passable for overlanders. There are certainly a lot of obstacles in SEAsia nowadays.

My fellow overlander from Malaysia suggested not to use Stung Treng, so we plan to use O'Smarch border to cross into Cambodia ... this is our 1st ride crossing border to Cambodia ... wish us luck ;p plan to ride from Malaysia Johor to Thailand - Laos - Cambodia start from 27th ...

I am currently evaluating if it's worth to cross Thailand with a guide from Myanmar to either Laos or Cambodia. As I will have to get my german registered bike home I will probably have to ship my bike out of Cambodia or possibly Vietnam (which is not really leagal to enter ) to europe or Malaysia.
Therefore it is very important to know if there is a high chance to be allowed to cross the border from Laos into Cambodia. Would love to hear some reports from people who did it and how they did it.

Crossing Laos to Cambodia
Hi
We crossed from Laos to Cambodia last Sunday with no problem at all. We have a carnet, they asked for it and filled it in correctly. We paid 1USD each for a medical quarantine certificate, we had to pay 35USD each for visa on arrival, fill out the customs form and went through. Laos charged us 2USD each for overtime as it was a Sunday.
We are fairly sure we will not be able to get a permit for Thailand so have approached a shipping agent. If you want his contact details, send me an email sue@nworth.co.uk

Two couples we know also crossed that border from Laos into Cambodia, in December.

Do you have UK registered bike? I am asking because we are planning to cross from Laos to Cambodia on Singaporean registered bike, and as far as we were told we dont beed CDP.

Laos to Cambodia
We are in a UK registered Toyota car, the others we know are in Spanish and German registered cars and both have carnets. We were all asked for them at the border.

If people are looking for a way to cross this border with a bike they have bought in Southeast Asia, then this may be an option...

This man has balls, but can only see this working, ok if your bike is $20 pieces of shit motorbike anything more than this I can't see you seeing your bike again lol
Not my cup of tea but good luck to anyone who has the balls to try it.
