Myanmar Crossing Early June 2019

Hey everyone! We are a couple in a Landcruiser looking to cross Myanmar early in June 2019 from Thailand to India. Is anybody else crossing a similar time and would be keen to join and share costs? We can be a little bit flexible on dates if that helps .

Currently in contact with Osuga but if we get a few involved I can call around the other operators....

SolarTuk

Hi Joss. How is the planning going? I am part of a journey around the world, in an electric/solar Tuk Tuk (see www.solartuk.org). We are planning to be in Myanmar in late June, travelling from Mae Sot to Tamu. Maybe we could meet up for part of the trip?

We can only travel 200km-250km a day, before we need to recharge, so unless you're happy to take a relaxed pace, maybe we won't be able to keep up for the whole journey. But it would be great to stay in touch.

Can I ask how your planning is going? Have you found a good guide? We are still in the market (a bit late on this one), and any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Eddie

Hi Eddie

Wow that looks like an amazing trip!

I managed to join a group of currently 10 overlanders crossing Myanmar at the end of June so we have just delayed our original crossing date slightly to go with them. If you'd like to join that then drop me an email at jpquilty@hotmail.com and I can forward the details!

Haha! Well we don't travel much further than that either, plus it's hard to have anything other than a relaxed pace in an old landcruiser, so would be great to travel together!

Speak soon

Joss

papers to travel overland

Since April 2018 regulations changed for travelling overland through Myanmar and it has become much cheaper and easier to bring your own car or motorbike into Myanmar and travel from India overland to Thailand (or vice versa)

You still need to go through a travel agency but there is no longer a compulsory government minder and follow car but you need to have a licensed guide along the trip in the car (to sort out any language problems and check points etc along the way) OR pay for an extra car & guide to travel with you.

Expect to be paying around 200 Usd per vehicle application fees including a compulsory insurance and all paper work AND about 125 Usd per day for the guide (IF the guide can sit in your vehicle) including the guide’s accommodation, meals, transport to and from the borders on his own etc.

You need to have a fixed travel itinerary in advance and while it is possible to stay longer or change a bit of the itinerary it means some extra paperwork and increase in costs (as you need a guide for more days).
In order to get all the permits for your car you need to send the travel agency the following info:
• Pictures of the car incl chassis number plate
• Car registration book (carnet de passage is NOT compulsory)
• Your passport copy
• Your driving license (international driving license is NOT compulsory)
• Dates and planned routing

You need to apply for an e-visa by yourself (best online) – use ONLY this official website and no others: https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
