Merzouga: Stayed at Nomad Palace Hotel Don't follow signs to Left or right but 100 M before Merzouga take tarmac to your right ( if you are heading South before Merzouga). Then after 1 mile gravel track to your left will take you there ( 500M track OK for tarmac tyres) N 31.04 6291 W 003.99 6504
Very nice and close to the camels for a camel ride out to the desert.Also right on Erg Chebbi so if you want to ride on the dune then just ride.
Very good food and great swimming pool. Ali is the owner and manager.

I travelled as a solo woman in May 2012 and would also like to disrecommend going it alone on the pistes cos I did come to grief and was ripped off mightily to be 'rescued' by a local!!
I posted requests for beds on CouchSurf which mostly worked well and is a way to experience local life and I also used cheaper places and went to the hammams which are brilliant and a great place to meet the local women

TAZA
Hotel de l’Etoile on Pl Moulay Hassan opposite the bus station. By the souk in the upper town. As you come down from the Djebel Tazzaka Circuit you get to the old town first. New part is down the hill. You’ll need to ask as the sign is hidden behind some colonnades.
Very friendly and clean and lots of blankets. No private bathrooms but the hammam is 2 mins away. Lots of room for bikes in the courtyard. 40Dh 1 person in dble room. Best price by far in the whole stay!

MIDELT
The Bougafer 7 Ave Mohammed V in the centre of town was friendly and clean. Guardien watches parking. Some better rooms with showers but again hammam around the corner. 70 Dh single in a double.

Went out to Auberge de Jaffar but it felt very tired and past its best especially at 350 hb. According to the locals it’s now used for drinking and women!! But met some bikers who said it was fine

TODRA GORGE
Hotel de Lune de Gorge. About 9km from Tinerhir before the gorge itself overlooking a river bed and opposite the campsite with lots of flags. Very friendly. Arrived late but Layhcin cooked me a tagine. Safe parking. Dble room with balcony, hot shower! Dinner and breakfast 150Dh

DADES GORGE
Chez Pierre for a blowout. Wonderful food, best breakfast of the trip, great staff and decent doubles with private terraces overlooking the river. About 2 mls before the bendy bits up to the fancy Kasbah. Pool. Alcohol license. Bike locked in compound behind the kitchen. 500Dh single hb which compared well with not so nice places.

SETTI FATMA
Dar Piano. Actually 6km before Setti on left hand side and a much more pleasant option. French run, very civilised! Front rooms have balconies, back ones look onto river. Private parking Hb 250Dh

TIZI TEST
On the summit there is an auberge – rather basic but great setting. Supposed to be hot water, large rooms, heating provided. And a huge open fire. There’s also the option of camping there. Good parking. 250Dh single hb but was asked the same price down in the valley

MARRAKECH
Hotel des Riad des Princesses. Off Rue Riad Zitoun el Kedim which runs off Jma el Fna so very central. Can ride a bike up there to drop off luggage and safe parking by CTM hotel for 25 Dh/day. Also along Rue bar Agnou for 10/day. Breakfast is great, hammam, Jacuzzi, lge rooms, private terraces, great staff. I paid 500Dh single but think it might normally be more. Definitely one of the better ones in the price range and I looked at a LOT. My touch of luxury in a long trip.

KSABI
Chez Saeeda and Mustafa. About 4km out of the town and a better alternative than Henri IV. Well signed. Fairly basic – they’ve not quite finished everything off but a lovely warm welcome and despite a 7.30 arrival Saeeda made an epic tagine. Hot water, terrace with splendid views. Well situated to start the back road down to Imilchil and Todra. Camping possible, Safe parking. She was so pleased to see a woman biker she brought my bike Ahmed into the kitchen so he could be 'nice an warm'.

AZROU
Hotel Bonsejour seems a better bet than the Cedars which is past its best. And the manager was pretty creepy. Bonsejour is on the square behind and has rather more local life going on. Small rooms but if you get a balcony it’s ok. Private garage. Not en suite but staff will take you round to the hammam. 70 Dh single 120 Dble no breakfast.
Some nice patisseries on the square.

Lots of auberges on the road up to Ifrane which was a ghost town in mid May and an amazing Disneyesque/Randolph Hearst Castle campsite with 20ft high coffee pots.

ASILAH
Hotel Mansour recommended in Rough Guide but not that clever. None of the promised hot water, shower wouldn’t fix to the wall, no stairwell lighting despite frequent reminders. Breakfast listed as included. They demanded 25Dh for a coffee and croissant!! And it’s recommended as an English speaking travel agency but I was given very wrong info re ferries. But a pleasant town and decent fresh fish restaurants near the medina walls

Chefchaouen

Hotel Andaluz: 120 DH for 2 pers. Splendid view on the roof terrace ( 2 rooms only)on mountains and medina. Friendly staff and you can use the kitchen to cook and make tea. Hot water and clean showers and toilets.

DON'T: Pension Castellana: our laptops have been stolen from the locked bedroom; no traces of burglary, so they used a key. As the pension has no locked and safe deposit the only place you can leave your stuff is your room. Owner denied any responsibility and declared to the police that he suspected us to have taken them ourselves and try to defraud. Luckily that the friendly policemen spoke both english and french and told us the whole story after the owner of the pension has been send away.

Chefchaouen - Riad Baraka - bit pricier than other options, but really enjoyed my stay. lovely building, room and terrace, peaceful and theyve got ! its within the medina so you have to park and hoof in your gear, bit hard to find if you're not prepared with directions/map beforehand (like me)

Meknes - camp Agdal within the city is no longer operational, despite what google maps indicates as I discovered the annoying way. found another campsite about 10mi north on the N13, lookout for the sign. dont remember the name but you cant miss it.

Ouarzazate

Residence Rosas: It is an aparthotel, 200 DH for an apartment with two separated rooms, a bathroom with WC and a kitchen with everything you need for cooking . In bedroom there are two beds for adults and one for children, in living room - three sofas, table, TV. Breakfast included.

It is located in a residential area, about 20-30 minutes by foot from the city centre. They allow your bike inside the hall at night.

Big ‘colonial-era’ rooms, group showers, terrace, OK breakfast, bar and pizza resto next door. May try Loc’s flashier suggestion next time

Stayed in Assaragh up the cliff last time, and as expected, everyone loved this place in a tranquil palm valley. Rough piste in from northwest but road now reaches from the south and west.

Lots of beds, great food, friendly folk, cats and alcohol too.

Chez Moha, Aït Youb
My group not so impressed on arrival at this traditional mud and straw High Atlas Berber compound but a cold ride and evening may have contributed to that. Ali brought in a heater to the dining room, the food was a feast, morale recovered. In November what this place needs is wood for the fireplace next door.
Our room next to the resto was sewage smelly and water pressure was lame. Other rooms over the courtyard were fine. Maybe better in warm Springtime. Also now has the new and more conventional (tiles, etc) Auberge Amellago nearby.

Hotel du Vallee, Ouarzazate (just south of the causeway)
Stayed here years ago. A big hotel perhaps past its heyday but as one said ‘it’s the first hotel where everything works’. Water hot without asking, good pressure, rooms big enough and with aircon/heating, nice feast prepared, friendly service, warmed resto ‘tent’, full pool. A reliable cheapie prior to the 4-hour ride back to Marrakech

Imessouane (between Agadir and Essaouira) Auberge "Chez Hassan"

had first hot showers in town, clean place, Hassan spent a lot of time in Germany. German shepards as guardian dogs. Very good food on pre order, fish is bogt directly from the fishermen at the port and they only buy what they need fresh. Noone will leave the table hungry EVER! Bring your own booze or buy next door at "Tasra" (run by Hassan's brother)

Essaouira - Hotel Villa Maroc

expensive but a beauty, next to the port. owned by swiss-moroccan couple. Home made Argan oil (The only source I can be shure it's 100% pure, because they own the trees and mills and do everything themselves after being screwed over by mill owners)

Mirleft (on the coast north of Sidi Ifni) - Douar Timgrad

Owned by french Motorbike enthusiast called Martin, cooks like a boss, chops his own lowriders out of 50cc bikes and scooters, used to guide quad tours in the area so he'll have hints for tracks to explore. Do not miss this place! 0648879580 for reservations and to preorder food.

Midelt - Hotel Kasbah Asmaa
South edge of town on the the main N13 route. About 100 meters past the Ziz gas station.
Was able to park bike inside the protected courtyard area. Paid the watchman 15 - 20 dirham a day for keeping an eye on it.
Paid 350 for a room for one person including breakfast. 450 including a dinner set meal.
They have decently speedy wifi/internet in the lobby.
Heaters in the rooms and plenty of hot water in the shower.
Staff spoke decent English and was VERY helpful in arranging things and helping me get stuff done.
Nice cosy hotel with a fire place and beautiful public areas. The bathrooms in the rooms leave something to be desired but are clean and working.
I stayed 4 nights and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Wrong way to Kathmandu - A Sidecar Misadventure

2- Midelt........................................Kasr Timnay (The overlander regular stop)
3- Erg Chebbi..................................Auberge Du Sud ( Impecable as always)
4- Ouarzazate (Oasis Fint).................Les Terrace des Delices ( Beautifull oasis)
5- Marrakech...................................La Ferme Berbere ( excellent location outside the crowded Marrakesh - guarded parking)

Lac Maider camping/Auberge-Tafraoute; On the MS6 piste stayed here overnight after being sand blased on the MS6 piste, excellent people and food, a great little stop over, toilets/showers OK, asked to pay nothing as I was taking a broken part to Zagora for them, like I say a great little place with great Moroccan hospitality.

Big ‘colonial-era’ tiled rooms, some en suite, set around courtyards, good breakfast, lots of cafes and restos nearby.
Good wifi reaches ground floor rooms but can't bring a moto in, or even park too long to unload. Garages and guardian parking nearby.

Gite Paradis, Agoudim
Again, everyone loved this place in a tranquil palm valley below the cliff.
Bikes by the front. Lots of single beds in screened dorms, great food, cats and alcohol too.
But sadly the grandiose patron turned up as we left and stiffed me at 300d pp half board (nearly double from last time). Nice place but not worth that so make sure you establish a price or stay at the place below.


Auberge des Etoiles - Assaragh
The other auberge in the valley.
Warm welcome in a big modern Berber dwelling overlooking the palmerie above the cliff switchbacks. Bike let in the garage, car room out front, steamy hammam room, food was great this time. Family lives below and animals next to them.

Kasbah Itrane, Tamnougalte
Great find one dark night, lovely spacious kasbah with classy rooms. Everyone loved it. Great service and food. Shaky wifi in reception.

300d pp HB and well worth it for a demi-splurge. (Best value of the 3 places to stay nearby - one more basic, the other mason d'hotes even nicer but pricey)

Kasbah Tamadirt, Tamadirt (18km east of Agdz)
Authentic locally renovated mud and palm trunk kasbah set among the village's crumbling ruins. A bit dark, plain decor and small inside, but it's the real thing - you can't make a big room with mud. Friendly family runs it, food was good, seems popular with small Euro groups. Bikes inside the building.

Only had lunch here but the auberge in the Tizi n Tazazert pass (Jebel Sahro route) is 200d half board. In November would have been extremely chilly at 2350m.

Hotel Azaylah - Dh396 per night for good double with private facilities. No food available but its around the corner from the medina and wealth of good cafes and restaurants. Guardien parking in street outside.

Also noticed good looking campsite at North end of beach with grassy pitches.

Would be very interested in knowing more about this campsite. The two across the road from the beach at the north end of town were closed years ago.

I stayed at the northernmost campsite in Asilah a couple of nights after seeing you in Midelt Pete

It was open but only me and a camper van. Seemed to be run by kids whist I was there and cost was confusing. The bungalows seem to have local families living in the and the toilet/shower block was pretty dire. I planned to stay 2 nights but left after 1.

The campsite next door didn't appear open
