I travelled as a solo woman in May 2012 and would also like to disrecommend going it alone on the pistes cos I did come to grief and was ripped off mightily to be 'rescued' by a local!!
I posted requests for beds on CouchSurf which mostly worked well and is a way to experience local life and I also used cheaper places and went to the hammams which are brilliant and a great place to meet the local women

TAZA
Hotel de l’Etoile on Pl Moulay Hassan opposite the bus station. By the souk in the upper town. As you come down from the Djebel Tazzaka Circuit you get to the old town first. New part is down the hill. You’ll need to ask as the sign is hidden behind some colonnades.
Very friendly and clean and lots of blankets. No private bathrooms but the hammam is 2 mins away. Lots of room for bikes in the courtyard. 40Dh 1 person in dble room. Best price by far in the whole stay!

MIDELT
The Bougafer 7 Ave Mohammed V in the centre of town was friendly and clean. Guardien watches parking. Some better rooms with showers but again hammam around the corner. 70 Dh single in a double.

Went out to Auberge de Jaffar but it felt very tired and past its best especially at 350 hb. According to the locals it’s now used for drinking and women!! But met some bikers who said it was fine

TODRA GORGE
Hotel de Lune de Gorge. About 9km from Tinerhir before the gorge itself overlooking a river bed and opposite the campsite with lots of flags. Very friendly. Arrived late but Layhcin cooked me a tagine. Safe parking. Dble room with balcony, hot shower! Dinner and breakfast 150Dh

DADES GORGE
Chez Pierre for a blowout. Wonderful food, best breakfast of the trip, great staff and decent doubles with private terraces overlooking the river. About 2 mls before the bendy bits up to the fancy Kasbah. Pool. Alcohol license. Bike locked in compound behind the kitchen. 500Dh single hb which compared well with not so nice places.

SETTI FATMA
Dar Piano. Actually 6km before Setti on left hand side and a much more pleasant option. French run, very civilised! Front rooms have balconies, back ones look onto river. Private parking Hb 250Dh

TIZI TEST
On the summit there is an auberge – rather basic but great setting. Supposed to be hot water, large rooms, heating provided. And a huge open fire. There’s also the option of camping there. Good parking. 250Dh single hb but was asked the same price down in the valley

MARRAKECH
Hotel des Riad des Princesses. Off Rue Riad Zitoun el Kedim which runs off Jma el Fna so very central. Can ride a bike up there to drop off luggage and safe parking by CTM hotel for 25 Dh/day. Also along Rue bar Agnou for 10/day. Breakfast is great, hammam, Jacuzzi, lge rooms, private terraces, great staff. I paid 500Dh single but think it might normally be more. Definitely one of the better ones in the price range and I looked at a LOT. My touch of luxury in a long trip.

KSABI
Chez Saeeda and Mustafa. About 4km out of the town and a better alternative than Henri IV. Well signed. Fairly basic – they’ve not quite finished everything off but a lovely warm welcome and despite a 7.30 arrival Saeeda made an epic tagine. Hot water, terrace with splendid views. Well situated to start the back road down to Imilchil and Todra. Camping possible, Safe parking. She was so pleased to see a woman biker she brought my bike Ahmed into the kitchen so he could be 'nice an warm'.

AZROU
Hotel Bonsejour seems a better bet than the Cedars which is past its best. And the manager was pretty creepy. Bonsejour is on the square behind and has rather more local life going on. Small rooms but if you get a balcony it’s ok. Private garage. Not en suite but staff will take you round to the hammam. 70 Dh single 120 Dble no breakfast.
Some nice patisseries on the square.

Lots of auberges on the road up to Ifrane which was a ghost town in mid May and an amazing Disneyesque/Randolph Hearst Castle campsite with 20ft high coffee pots.

ASILAH
Hotel Mansour recommended in Rough Guide but not that clever. None of the promised hot water, shower wouldn’t fix to the wall, no stairwell lighting despite frequent reminders. Breakfast listed as included. They demanded 25Dh for a coffee and croissant!! And it’s recommended as an English speaking travel agency but I was given very wrong info re ferries. But a pleasant town and decent fresh fish restaurants near the medina walls
