Tunisia, Djerba, bikers welcome hotel
Hi, when I was in Djerba, looking for accomodation, I found the east coast was full of international resorts (like Radisson and so). I hate those expensive plastic rooms. I kept on riding to the Port of Houmt Souk, just after the XV century Castle, I found on the left side the Hotel du Lotos. Easy to see. Everybody knows anyway.
It seemed to be nice, clean and basic. I asked for the price and a single room was 30 dinars (less than 14 euros) with wiew over the sea. The staff was friendly. My bike was parked at the back yard and the food and drink at the small restaurant was really OK.
You can get wine and
At the following morning, one old elegant man came to me. He was de owner, he told me he was french citizen but greek roots and lived for a long in Thaiti. He had seen my motorcycle and wanted to tell me that in 1955 he rode an 500 cc motorcycle from Greece to India tru Paskistan and Afghanistan, and he did the way back. He had a book about his life and that trip was a chapter in.
I think Hotel du Lotos is a good place to stay in Djerba itself, but I highly recomend to go there and ask for that brave pioneer.
