USA, California to New York trip
I'm new to HU today. I live in England. I want to do a bike trip across the USA - coast to coast. The cost of transporting my bike to the US is too expensive, so I'm considering buying a bike in US, and then sellling it at the end of the ride. Can anyone advise if this is feasible? What about the paperwork, registration doc, and insurance etc. I really want a classic bike, i,e like the Norton Commando I have at home, but obviuously I don't want to be stuck by the roadside doing too many repairs! Maybe a Hinckley Triumph woild be better.. Any help and experience would be appreciated.

WHY????/ You would probably have more fun riding around Europe. Nothing interesting to see here in the US, just a bunch of "NO this", "NO that" signs. Bunch of highways with overweight truck drivers, minivans and pickup trucks.
I don't know if you can purchase a bike in NY and register it but if you need any help just let me know and I'll give you a hand.
Good luck!!

Look at this thread on buying in the USA.

You should buy the bike "Way out West" there are a lot of great places to go on your way going East.

go on Craiglist.org they have bikes for sale, thats where I got mine. You can get an international drivers license and get insurance on that, I've heard of ones using there license from home as well. The cops are pretty easy here they won't give you hassle if you doing nothing wrong. Let me know if you need help I'm in San Francisco, I'll help you out as much as I can.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
