Malaysia Accommodation

MELAKA:
Kencil Guest House: mentioned a couple of times in this section, will be closing unfortunately by the end of July 2011.

We found another place, which is not far away and where you can have the motorbikes close to the house, inside the fenced garden. There is plenty of space for motor bikes: hawkers 5 minutes away
Apa Kaba Guesthouse,
No 28, Kampung Banda Kaba,
76000 Melake,
ph./ fax +60 6 283 8196
email: apakaba@streamyx.com

prices from 40,- MYR (double room with fan –small room) up to 99,- MYR (family room with aircon, shower and toilet)

BATU PAHAT, Johor

A Guest House run by a Chinese couple. Very spacious and clean rooms with toilet, shower (hot) and internetfor only 45,- MYR. The motorbikes can be parked in front of the house, which is fenced around. It actually looks like a normal house. There are no signs, etc saying, that it is a Guest House.
The couple is very nice and friendly. His English is very good, she can´t speak English. Sometimes an English teacher is there. Fruit stalls 5-10 min walk. Hawkers further away, ca 20 min walk.

BANTING
Hotel, clean room with shower (hot) / toilet, aircon, TV , internet for 45,- MYR – hawkers and shops around the corner. Bikes on the road, but are guarded during the night and it is a very quiet street. Hardly traffic.

TASIK CHINI Lake/ village of Gumum
Rajan Jones Guest House (mentioned in the Lonely Planet as well)

Great place to hang around. Basic accommodation in a rustic longhouse with fan, moskito nets and shared bathromm (extra building / 4 rooms with toilet, shower)
Rajan is a great person and can do jungle walks with you or you go for a tour on the lake and the river.
Including in the price of 30,- MYR per Person are breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. For an extra 5,-MYR you can get lunch as well. Meals have been plenty and great.
There is no internet and no fruit stalls –so stock up before. Only a small chinese shop, where you can buy, eg water, coke, , cookis, sweets, etc.
The village of Tasik Chini is not far away with the motor bike

We parked the bikes in front of the house, but you can park them also inside the dining area or around the building. Depending on your bike, etc. We stayed 5 days and there was never any problem.

Good to hear you have found a few places you are happy to stay at Alexandra.

My experience is that there is a plethora of cheap, clean, good quality hotels and guesthouses in Malaysia. I have been visiting and travelling there regularly for the past 36 years - with bike and without - and I think it is the best country to visit, bar none.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
