19" Knobby front tyres in Ecuador/Peru/Bolivia?
I'm in Ecuador with a Japanese friend who's looking for a knobby front tyre (110/80-19) for his 1200GS.
We found a Metzeler Karoo in Quito but were horrified at the price - U$295. We found a TKC80 rear at the same place for U$360!!!
Has anyone bought 19" knobbies (preferably TKC or Karoo) in Ecuador, Peru or Bolivia?
If so can you tell me where and roughly what price/when?
Cheers/Arigato!

Mmmmm....235 views yet not one reply.
Does that mean everyone want's to ride their GS through the Andes but nobody has?
Maybe I'll have more luck over on ADV Rider?

This reply doesn´t help you, but I only encountered 17 and 18 inch tires in ecuador&peru.

The KTM shop in Medellin was able to order a 19 inch TKC for us and and ship to us in Pasto. It took about 5 or 6 days to get the tire from Miami, then another 2 to get it to Pasto. It worked out for us, and in the end the price was similar to what we'd pay in Canada for the same tire, which is kind of expensive. Maybe a shop in Ecuador can do something similar, there are a fair number of bike shops in Quito.

1200 GS tires
My buddy bought tires for his GS, not full offroad but 50% in Cuenca. We went to 3 tire shops, not motorcycle shops just regular tire shops and they all had tires in the back that fit his 1200 GS which is exactly like mine. He is from Venezuela, i´m from Canada. He sent me an email and said he liked them. Suggest checking regular tire shops, which are huge and carry an unreal assortment of tires.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
