A good road to Cusco ? please..
Hi Lads & Ladies,
I am in Chile at the moment heading north on an over loaded R1100GS, and my tyres are shagged. I dont really want to spend the money on new tyres, is there a way to Cusco, Peru and then back through La Paz, Bolivia and then Chile again on anything that even looks like a good road to save my tyres...
thanks for any replies.
regards
jose

I just rode from Cusco to La Paz on perfect roads. I think they are ALL good, so no problems. Aboutto head to Chile so no info yet.
BTW, the road from Nasca, Peru to Abancay, Peru is the best I have ever ridden. Perfect pavement, miles of perfect twisties and beautiful scenery- could not ask for more. Highly recommended.

In Dec. took road from Nazca to Cuzco. Road was very good condition and scenic. Only problem was encountering snow and sleet storm at highest elevation(about 170 miles from Nazca)and I wasn't prepared for that weather, so after surviving night in mud hut I went back to warmer stuff. If you're prepared, road is good.--Porter

Roads are beautiful between Cusco and Nazca. Also Ok from La Paz to Cusco. Good camping midpoint at Hot Springs near La Raya. Between lake Titicaca and Cusco. Also at Chalhuanca, between Cusco and Nasca. Camp in Nasca or good rooms at WASIPUNKU. An old hacienda about 10 kms. south from town. Ask for Oli or Alan and tell them I sent you. Also good idea to buy tyres in Iquique (Chile). VERY cheap! Less than 40 USS apiece (I ride a Harley 97 Sportster). Come visit if you drive further north. I live in Huaraz. Cordillera Blanca. The most beautiful mountain valley anywhere. Just ask for the big yellow moto.
Write if you need more info.

Guys,
The roads you all talk about here - they ok weather-wise at the mo? I just arrived in Peru a day ago and found that Equador / Peru altitude to be ok, if a little nippy during the day...can I expect any snow or bad riding conditions esp. interested in roads to Cusco / La Paz etc.
Cheers fellas.
