Any affordable options for getting the bike from Colombia / Venezuela to USA?
Hey everyone:
I'm plotting my final part of my trip through South America. I'm starting in Buenos Aires and will be heading north through Brazil/Venezuela. I need to start thinking about my end game for the bike. If I can get it back from the USA in a really affordable way ($500 ish)? ; I'd like to do that. If I can't, I need to look at selling it before. I'm not sure how much my 2005 V-Strom (with nearly 70,000 miles at that point) would be worth in the States; or whether it would be worth spending much to get it to the States.
From my research I know there's a roll-on/roll-off ferry Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics - worldwide ocean transport, inland services, supply chain solutions, terminal services from Brazil $550 for a car is what I've heard from the folks at Life Remotely: Redefine Travel. Live and Work Anywhere. Become location independent or a digital nomad. | Life Remotely .. so that's an option.
After Brazil I don't know of any other real options out of Venezuala or Colombia, other than shipping via air which I've heard is around $900. Part of me was hoping I could find a sailboat captain who would be running a trip from Colombia or Venezuela => USA directly. I've already ridden through Central America and wouldn't be opposed to doing it again on the way back up, but would want to avoid the $1000 trip on the Stahlratte (i did it on the way down).
So any knowledge on shipping from Brazil/Venezuela/Colombia? Many thanks
Best,
David
