About Kenton
Hi mate,
I've had some experience on these chinese bikes, taiga, kenton... As I live at the border with Paraguay, there's a ruge traffic of "moto taxis" to cross the border, they literally use their bikes to the full and it seems the kenton is the most reliable because everyone uses it more than other brands. Of course we can't compare with hondas, etc... but I believe, and definetly would buy a kenton for a trip the would last some months in south america. Just be prepared to buy some spare parts, as you'll notice, most of the bits of the bike don't inspire much confidence. this bike in particular kenton dakar, I believe it's 150cc, seems to be a "reliable" bike for what you want and I believe, also for the price you'll pay for it.
So, for a trip of 7 or 8.000 km around SA, you should be fine. A pro of this bike is that you can find easily parts and as it's common bike, any mechanic could fix it.
All the best
