Anyone know the actual admin costs for clearance in Buenos Aires?
Hello everyone.
I am reasonably sure I will be shipping my bike over to Buenos Aires in the next few weeks. I have a shipper from Cape Town and I believe Dakar Motors will be sorting stuff out at the other end. What seems to be vague all the time is the admins costs at the port.
Does anyone have recent experience through there? Is it a nightmare as has been suggested in the past? Is there an alternative? I have been told about Monte Video but can find no information about agents there that people have used.
Any thoughts, hints, experience or ramblings would be much appreciated.
Cheers Zed.

According to Javier at Dakar Motors the charges are roughly ARG$ 4.000.- (Argentinean Pesos) per bike depends of volume/weight, airline and storage time until it be cleared.
I can't see how it's going to be a nightmare if you've got someone handling the clearance for you. All you have to do is pay when they tell you pay and sign when they tell you sign. Expensive, but not a nightmare.
I looked into Montevideo, and found that total charges including paying for help, would be USD $1345.34 and takes 72 hours.
EDIT:
Oh hang on. When you say shipping, do you mean sea freight? By sea freight arriving in BA will cost more USD $1.000 just in customs and warehouse charges.
Recently people seem be saying to ship to Valparaiso in Chile, yet I've not seen a single person who's recommended it say why, or detail their costs.

Cheers C-m,
Just moved on a bit and got some more stuff sorted. Then realised I have sort of reposted this question.
It's cold. I'm tired and confused with all the shipping stuff. Hahahaha. Sometimes maybe I try and think too much!!!!!!
