Question arg-chile passes in the North closed (20-6-2013)

Hi,

We have been told that both pass Sico and pass de Jama are closed due to extreme snow. Sico has been closed for 6 days, and de Jama closed for 2 days with no sign of them opening. We got this from the police in San Antonio de los cobres (where we are now).

I would love to know how accurate the police information is. My choices are to drive up there and back again if closed, or sit and wait, or head north vis ruta 40 to La Quiaca/Villazon and go directly into Bolivia.

Has anyone crossed these passes in the last few days?

Or have a good source of accurate information?

Thanks!

Merv and Sarah

Muchas Gracias mi Amigo!

however, we have gone direct north from Salta, and are now in Bolivia. The north of Chile will have to wait for another time!

And most important, as to your Stout? I'm afraid that John and I killed them one night at the Finca. We waited as long as we could :-)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
