chris,
my friend and i just made a trip from santiago to rio a few months ago. argentina was not a problem for us. the thing is that there is a shortage of currency in the country. so some of the banks are only open certain days of the week and only for certain hours. so sometimes it was hard to get cash. we ended up using our credit cards a lot. also, some of the regional banks started printing their own money that was only good/valid in that region. for example, we were in mendoza, and their bank printed money that we couldn't use in buenos aires. the money from buenos aires was good everywhere from what i remember. you do have to watch out for crooked cops that will pull you over for no reason and expect you to pay them off. my advise is carry a couple of pesos in a separate pocket and give them that saying that its all you have. consider it a toll of a couple of dollars. let me know what your route is, i have some good contacts down there. good journeys, eddie
