Question BMW Spares in La Paz (I'm joking right...)

I've just rolled into La Paz with what I think is a blown cylinder head gasket on my 2004 BMW F650. Is there someone in La Paz (Dealer/tour operator) who may have a gasket?
If not, has anyone sourced parts from within SA or am I gonna have to dig deep and cough up for a courier from the UK?

Cheers

Adam

Bmw? Try The Honda Guys

Hi! I don't know about BMW, but there's a good honda shop in La Paz that you can Google - they were very helpful in 2005. The nearest I know of (because Santiago is in Chile!) would probably be in Cordoba, Argentina. I'm sure if you need something to be imported the Honda guys will be able and willing to help.

Good like - please post pictures! If you have not been there, see if you can get to Salar de Uyuni, surely one of the most spectacular places on this planet.

Safe riding!

cochabamba

I think your best bet is looking for spares in Cochabamba, Bolivia, they have a bmw dealer there, with a very helpful guy. Im not sure they have your part in stock, But I know he'll get it fastest. You wont have to cross any borthers which may be a good thing. Cochabamba is a city about 400 km from Lapaz, Im not sure about their contact information, But I know the owner is a member of the HUBB

Resolved....?

Hi All,

Many thanks for all your replies but it seems to have been a false alarm.

Having had to replace the waterpump (again) in Uyuni I develpoed a small water leak from the drain screw. After several days (the day I rode into La Paz) I topped up the radiator before setting out and I now think I overfilled it causing it to blow out coolant from the header tank. I believe the oil in the radiator to be residue left over from the waterpump failure.

After carrying out a few tests I rode 35km around the city without a problem.

Then I found my Ohlins was broken in a rather big way and that's why I'm still here! But that's another story...

Thanks again

Adam

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
