Road conditions: I was in Peru last February and rode all over the northern half of the country. Roads were fine. Some rain now and then, and muddy now and then, but I always had passage. Detours for land slides, high water river so I had to take the pedestrian log bridge, road full of slime for a section, bumpy rocks and washboard.. but I was on a 250cc moto with aggressive tires. I would have had more difficulty with my skills if I was on a heavier moto. I ride with other riders at home who would have been fine on their bigger bikes in those conditions. So, it depends...
Asphalt and heavily used dirt roads would have been fine if I was riding my 650cc moto, but it depends on what conditions you define as bad for a heavy moto. PanAm is always good as far as I know, but it's not in the Andes.
