Border crossing Ecuadro to Peru - Macara / La Tina
Did the border crossing on the PanAm at Macara / La Tina.
Ecuadorian site:
Immigration first - straight forward - got a print in the passport.
Bike Export - somewhat slow - the guy did eat something - than asked for the bike permit - handed that out - went out to check the VIN - did say everything finished.
I asked twice if I don't need a copy of the export paper - he said no - everything ok.
After some more discussion he agreed to give us copies - he then went to the office - where I am followed him and only then did fill out the export section on the bike permit sheet. Made a copy and we went on.
Time Ecuador: 45 mins
Cost Ecuador: 0
Peru site:
Immigration: Straight forward - had to fill out the usual form - got a small sheet of paper with a 90day stay - the guy charged us 10 USD (which probably was not necessary as he did not give a receipt ...)
Bike Import: very very very slow - guy asked for the Ecuador bike export paper - made a copy - title, made a copy as well, driver license - made a copy as well, passport - made a copy as well, immigration paper - made a copy as well. Needed to buy a insurance for the bike, fill out another form - guy filled something in a log book - and then into the computer.
Time Peru 2h 15 mins
Costs Peru: 45 USD (35 for insurance, 10???? for immigration)
All in all - looked corrupt on both sides (the customs guy from the bike import in peru tried to seperate me and my friend - we did not agree on that, the 10 USD on Peru side probably had not been necessary - and the guy in ecuador who did not like to hand out the bike export paper my have had a reason for that) - you can never say - but in my feeling one of the worser borders - although not complicated.
Total time: ~3h
Total costs: 45 USD
