We drove down to Villa O'Higgens and found the road VERY variable. Stretches of really bad corrugations and potholes with much longer stretches of good gravel roads. Some of what you have already done was as bad as it gets in places.
Three months ago so with all the extra traffic and maybe some rain, it might be worse.
Still, we found it to be a worthwhile trip.
NB Fuel at Villa O'Higgens is a bit hit and miss and when we were there they were out of petrol and diesel so you probably need to carry enough for at least 500km from Cochrane
If you are heading into Argentina afterwards, we used the pass just north of Cochrane and it was a pretty drive. Went due south over the border and then east to route 40 at Caracoles. Has one bridge that is good for say 5 tonne - signed as 1 tonne - but best not to be any heavier just in case.

I should have added - Hardly matters where you drive down there, you will be in the minority a lot of the times among small 2WD sedans that seem to get along faster than the 4WDs.
