Chile: Public services open in Christmas period?

Hi Chilean riders!

I am planning on arriving in Santiago by December 20th to buy a bike as quickly as possible.
This means I will need to go to Servicio de Impuestos Internos for my RUT and to Servicio de Registro Civil for bike's papers.
My idea is to get the paper work done between the 21st and the 23rd if possible. Hopefully I would be able to have my padron printed in Puerto montt by the 30th or early in January. But all depends on whether or not those administrations take holidays or not.

I did not found any information regarding holidays on the web sites, should I expect to find those offices closed at this time of the year?

If someone also know of a Notary opened in that period, would be nice!

I might be able to arrive a few days before, but it might be complicated.

Muchas gracias por toda la informacion que me podrian dar!

A new bike takes about a week.

A used bike takes about 3 weeks for the title, but you can travel on the Power of Attorney, if it's properly written.

Chile: Public services

Services are open all working day, except in December 25 and January 1.

If you buy a Bike you have to go direct to "registro civil office" is moore cheapper and the answer and documents are inmediately.

The notaries have to send to "registro civil" and then they send documents to you. need 2 week moore time.

Regards

Thanks for your answers, that's great.
My plan is to do the papers directly to Registro civil and hopefully I can get the padron after a few working days (5-7) in Puerto Montt's office.

Could you tell me more about the power of attorney?
How could I be sure it is properly written? How is it called in spanish? Any attorney (abogado) can do it or only a notary?

hello!!

first, please forgive my bad writing english..

second, zibou in my experience, when you buy a bike (or vehicle) the official aks you an adress, where they send you the "padron" (i dont know how to call this paper), i dont know if you can ask him to retire that document in Pto Montt....

whenever, when you make the "sales" ir their offices, immediately they give you a paper who certifies that the bike is yours, and you can show that paper to the police man, in case of "road-control"

I live in Chiloe, are you planning ride for this island? (it`s almost near to Pto Montt, about 230 kms.)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
