Colombia to Panama - options incl cargo flight?

Fellow bikers,

I'm just reviewing my options for a late-Feb 2017 move of myself and BMW R80 from Colombia to Panama.

I've spoken with Stefan of Stahlratte. Between Nov and May they change their sailing route to Mexico-Cuba. First journey from Cartagena-Panama is scheduled late May '17.

While I research others ships sailing this route in Feb, I was wondering what alternatives other bikers have experienced, including flying bikes cargo plane. And if flights are possible from Cartagena to Panama, or only Bogota or Medellin? Would love to know the companies which did a good job.

Thank you and wishing you all a wonderful Christmas/Holiday Season!

Bob

Somebody mentioned the sailboat Wildcard quite recently on the facebooksite of Horizons and gave them a good review as well.

Flights (used to be) into Meddiln and Bogota , using Girag.

GIRAG - Air Cargo

Experience ? They get the bike to the destination, maybe not on the day you expected, but they get it there :-)

Thanks Snakeboy and Bruce.

I'm waiting to hear back from Wildcard. So far they seem the best bet, having taken plenty of bikes across the sea (60ft boat vs Stahlratte's 100ft, but they can take bikes >1000cc).

Cheers,

Bob

As far as I know Wild Card is taking bikes only from Panama to Colombia. Not in your direction.
Please let us know if they changed that.

Terribly sorry about that - 126ft!

What you say, Stefan, could well be true. On Wildcard's website on the motos page it only gives the Panama to Colombia option.

When I hear back from them I will post it here.

Happy Christmas, happy sailing!

We are heading North at about the same time as you. Might be April but possibly May when we get to Cartagena.

If you want another biker in your team to consolidate the fright then count us in. Two people and 1200 GSA.

I hope to be on the Stahlratte but cannot say how long the Ruta 40 will take and then the small matter of a 10,000 km trip to Columbia. So we are assuming that we will be in Columbia and also wondering how to get to Panama.

We can tell you how we are doing or simply PM us through HUBB,

Nigel and Sharyn Tailyour nigeltailyour(at)gmail(dot)com

Thanks Nigel and Sharyn, that's a fine offer, but it's actually end-Feb that I need to move onto Panama, having already extended my Colombian visa and TIP once.

Have a great ride!

so how did you get your bike from Colombia to Panama? I'm being told that it's even more complicated than Panama to Colombia?
