Crate available in BA
I'll be flying my R12GS in to Buenos Aires (EZE) and arriving on 26th March. This is a large "Pop-Up" crate(https://motorcycleshippers.com/s_pop_standard.htm) and holds my GS w/ Jesse luggage with only the screen and mirrors removed. It would also hold two smaller bikes. I would sell it complete with all hardware and straps included.

GS crate
My bike is in Panama. I'm not sure if I'll be able to ride South America or if I'll just ride back to Wisconsin. It depends on my budget. How much is the crate? How much is it costing to ship the bike to BA?

Shipping crate in BA...
I paid $450. USD (+ a TON in shipping) to get it here to Upstate NY. I also discovered that any crate/pallet going out of the US MUST be heat treated and stamped so that our bugs don't end up in other countries. I was going to build my own, but when I discovered the expense and labor in getting this heat-treated approved marking I just bought this one. I don't know if the requirements are the same for cargo entering the US, but I would think that the government would be MORE concerned about in-bound freight.

Anyway, I'd like to get $200.USD, for the crate,hardware,straps...
Again, I'll be entering BA on the 26 March, I think the crate would be available on the 27th.

Possible purchase/storage of Crate in Buenos Aires
Eric,, if by the time you arrive Buenos Aires, you have not found a buyer for your crate, give me a call. We might be able to use it. I would like to take a look at it. Also if you need transport for the crate, I have a good "fleta" (over sized delivery van) on call. We short and long term park motorcycles and gear for international travelers in our own "cocheras" in Buenos Aires.

Hi Eric
I answer you but also to clarify to everyone.
Any crate/pallet going out of ARGENTINA MUST be heat treated and stamped also you need a local Certificate to prove this treatment. We was keeping some crates to give to others traveler for few years, but when, year a go they start to be strict about this and the expense and labor in getting this heat-treated approved marking plus the transport to and from a place to do it plus than the customs warehouse charge you to lift it up/down from a truck. Its easier and maybe cheaper to ask the warehouse to made the crate and only ride the bike into the place or just take on a trailer or in a truck until the entrance of the warehouse. Now we have a lot of wood to made nice fires….
Sorry if I ruin your plan to recover some money you paid on that nice box but I want to be fair with all ….

I'm still interested in the crate, depending on all the other variables, of course. I understand your desire to re-coup your costs and I'd like to be fair. If the wood isn't reuseable, maybe we can work something out with the hardware and straps?

I've already riden from Wisconsin to Panama. In mid to late March my plan is to ship my bike via Girag from Panama to Bogota, then ride to Argentina (Ushuaia?!) I'll then either ride back to the US, or ship the bike and fly myself. I don't have a set schedule for arriving in BA. Who are you using for shipping to BA, and what's the total cost?

Crate and Costs...NY--->EZE
Hello Max,
I have been working with a freight forwarding company here in Syracuse NY. It is Mohawk Global Logistics. Scott Perkins is the export manager (and a rider!). They will pick up the bike here at my house, truck it to JFK where it clears Customs, and is then "in the system". Then it gets trucked (no kidding) to MIA, where it flies LanCargo to EZE. The Air Freight costs, JFK--->EZE "All In" and DG, is $1944. USD. Remember, this is a LARGE crate. I think the cost was estimated at ~1100 lbs Dim weight. With the other Inland freight, HAZMAT, Customs Clearance and misc. charges the total cost is ~$2600. I should have tracking information as soon as the crate is in the Lan system.
It's a lot of dough, but I trust this guy/company and it is service from my door.And I'm using miles to get myself to EZE so it sort-of balances out....(maybe)...

1100 pounds?!

My bike, with side-cases and top-case, with an empty tank, is about 550 pounds. I could put my clothes and gear in two medium-sized suitcases. I'll check with your freight company and do some more checking.

Let's stay in touch. We might be in Argentina and/or South America around the same time.

If there's anything you want to know about the Panama/Mexico part, just ask.

If the crate is large they charge by the dimensions, not the actual weight. If your crate is small and very heavy, they charge by actual weight. In short, they use the calculation that allows them to charge you the most....crazy....

I just spoke with Scott at Mohawk. He's going to do some checking, call the affiliate in BA, and call me back.

My plan would be to ship the bike from BA to Miami.

At this point my crate is still available at EZE on 27th March. I will be arriving on the 26th, returing (with Sandra) to get the bike on the 27th. Drop me a note if you might be interested.....
