Current conditions in Salar de Uyuni?

I'm flying down to Argentina on Thursday and hope to ride into Boliva next Monday. I'm concerned rain my make the visit to the Salar undesirable and would appreciate any information on the suitability for visit through the area this time of year. has anyone traveled the Salar this time of year when it is raining? Is the Salar currently covered in water?

Hi Steam Turbine
I live in Bolivia and can tell you that the rainy season hasn't started yet so you should be fine. January is when it starts in earnest. Actually December could be perfect cause it won't be so cold either...
Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for your reply and I'm even more excited about the trip. I should be crossing into Bolivia on Monday.

I've been in rain ever since Crossing into Bolivia. Without current contions in Uyuni I think I'm going to assume the rain is there as well. Wish someone was there and new the cidutions today.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
