Desperately Needed - GS1150 Clutch Plates
I am currently stuck in Santa Maria, Catamarca needing new clutch plates. I am unable to get new ones from a dealer in Argentina and face the prospect of waiting 25 days for them to be ordered from Germany.
Can anyone give information on any independent dealers that may be able to help. Also, do any other BMW model clutch plates fit my 2002 GS1150R, e.g. an 1100 or the other 1150 engine models?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can provide,
HONESY.

You can use the clutch plate from R1100S and R1150R (and maybe others).
It should be possible to rebuild the one you have

Go to the Community Page and contact the group in the Argentine City closest to you. That will get locals in touch with you and they may offer help from housing to mechanical. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/com...tEnglish.shtml click the area near you, scroll to the bottom of the page, add your information and what you need. Also do not be shy the Argentines will help you.
The next thing you may have to consider is to get a truck and transport the bike to Buenos Aires. Dakar Moto there is a big help. DAKAR MOTOS-HOME OF ´OVER-LAND BIKE´ TRAVEL IN SOUTH AMERICA
For other options PM me. I am trying to get in touch with a rider south of you and another that lives in BA.
Things will work out, a friend of mine broke down in NE Peru. He had to have the bike taken to Lima by truck and waited a month for parts. The locals were a big help making the worse situation into a small disruption.
Good Luck and all the best.

Clutching at Straws.
Contacting the local community is always a great option. However, as your bike has what's basically a car clutch, and if it's the driven plate that's worn out, try taking it to someone who can rivet new linings on and turn them down to size. It won't be as good as the real thing, but it'll certainly give you many thousands of miles, especially if not abused.

Big Thanks
To you all for your assistance and information. I am in Salta now and have got someone on the case to fabricate me a new set of plates, which should get me back on track fairly shortly.
Cheers!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
