Ecuador Border Tips
1. Don't cross on Saturday or Sunday. The necessary customs office is not open on the weekend, and you will probably have to leave your motorcycle at the border, and return on Monday.
2. The customs office is closed between noon and 2pm for lunch. No work is done during this period. So it is best to arrive at the Ecuadorian border well before noon so that you can get processed before the office closes for lunch time.

Have heard reported that entering from the north is the easiest entry, followed by entry at the Quito airport, followed by the most difficult entry - from the south.

Hope this helps others, and saves them from it turning into a 3 day border crossing experience. Mine took 8 hours (entering from the north) to get into Ecuador because I hit them right before lunch hour. Peru was a breezy 30 minutes though.

Since the border is on the bridge, and between busy street markets on both sides, it is a good idea to do paperwork one day before, or early morning,with unloaded bike. Come back later and breeze through the vendors and officers with locked luggage. Good luck!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
