Ferries to Mexico
Does anyone know of any passenger/vehicle ferries from the South Eastern U.S. to the Yucatan? Or to any Mexican states on the Gulf Coast? Thanks!

You are in luck, a ferry service just started operations this week. It runs from Tampa Fla to the Yucatan, 'bout a 19 hour trip. They have a website http://www.yucatanexpress.com/index.html
A motorcycle is $99 usd one way.....

A friend and I will be on the Tampa - Progresso ferry on 18 December. Total cost including taxes and fees = USD 836 roundtrip for two bikes and two people. We're going with the cheapest cabin and skipping the meal plan ($125).
This ferry is only running for 6 months as a trial run. Depending on their success, they will either add a second boat or terminate service next spring. Take advantage of it while available.

Just took the ferry over and met a couple of other riders on the boat. The company, Yucatan Express ( www.yucatanexpress.com) apparently just jacked the price up and are making everybody take the meal plan for USD 125. About 930 dollars for the cheapest roundtrip with 2 bikes. Ferry is pretty uneventful, especially when you get to Mexico, where you have to wait in port for about 8 hours while the papers are prepped for all vehicles on the boat. They are apparently getting better though as the first boat in November took over 12 hours. The ferry company says it looks good for continuing and expanding service in April, though they said that the Mexican bureaucracy will be a big factor in their decision. Hope they work that out--

Just got back from the Yucatan -- great riding, great people. The ferry over was $370.30usd round trip for me and my HD and we did not have to purchase the meal plan. You can pay for each meal as you like $10.00 breakfast,$12.00 lunch & $15.00 dinner(usd). The best deal is the 11:00pm snack for $3.00. It seems to be dinner leftovers like baked salmon or beef tips and rice with salad and desert, not a big selection but a belly full at a cheap price. The paper work on the Progreso end is much improved. Took us only 3 hrs. to clear customs. We were ready to ride about 12:00pm. It's getting better as the ferry folks learn what they are doing. I was told that they will run the ferry again next year.
