Fluorescent jackets now compulsary in Buenos Aires province
A new law implemted on March 23 will give a new oportunity for corrupt cops to ask for a coima.
Any mortorcycle used for working purposes will have to wear a fluorescent jacket with the number of the plate on the back.
As international travellers using your vehicule for leisure purposes, you are not targeted (yet) but i got pulled over twice already on my way from Buenos Aires to the coast by police officers trying to get a tip from misinformed bikers.
The best option for non argentine bikers is just to avoid to speak spanish. After 10 minutes, they will just let you go. English is not advised too, as some might be able to argue in that language.
This is a first step to generalize the obligation of wearing a fluorescent jacket, like in Colombia and some part of Venezuela. It would make more sense to oblige to put white plates with black writings like in Europe and to leave front lights by day. But we are in another continent with its own logics...that logic cant understand :confused1:
Looks like the state of Santa Fe is about to pass a similar law. But as most laws in Argentina, it doesnt mean people will do it, it will just increase the daily income of corrupt police officers.
So, remember, your best defense is your inability to speak the local language. Once you can understand and can be understood, you become manipulable target...
