Smile Free KLR 650 in B.A.

i'm looking for a lunatic to ride my 2002 KLR650 back to the states. I'll even transfer title to you...I just cant get back there right now, and it breaks my heart to simply abandon her.
do you know someone who's bee saving for that big double continent trip who might be short on cash and willing to drive it up here? I wouldn't mind gifting the bike to a fellow traveller on the hopes that they'll gift it back to me in the states, could be any state for all i care, i'd be happy to ride that back from california again(well maybe not hawaii, but the other 49 definitely). right now its got 24,000 miles on it. Should the bike explode half way between there and here, i'd be willing to forgive and forget, provided the rider made their best attempt to get 'er back home. I am in no rush, never have been, part of the reason bikes still in BA.
If anyone else simply wants to buy this very nice bike, just lemme know, i'd unload her for a cool $1000 at this point, but would really prefer to see her out on pier 63 in manhattan once again.
hopefully there's one of you who's fool enough to jump at the oppurtunity. lemme know. (please dont make me look for a taker at the lonelyplanet website, you know how i feel about backpackers).

And the temporary import?

Jeff
Just a dumb question, the temporary import is on your name,so to someone to take the bike out it needs to be on his name. That means that you need to be here to take the klr out and then a fellow traveller could carry on.
The risk that the new traveller try to do this is they impound the bike at the border,$$$$$$$$$$$
When is the import expiring?
Other solution is to try at a little border and maybe they don´t look so close to it.

I would be interested. I wish I saw this a few days ago as I have just booked my flight to Los Angeles where I was planning on purchasing a bike and travelling down to SA. I looked at buying in South America but the prices are crazy.

I can change my flight if this becomes workable. Main concern is that I want to make sure that I dont have any problems getting bike across borders.

Also I am not great mechanically so is it in good condition? Obviously I would keep it well maintained on the trip.

I was planning on being away for 1 possibly 2 years so would that be a problem?

I will try to send you an email to discuss.

Cheers
Maurice

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
