If you are still in san diego, let me know where your staying and maybe we can meet up for a drink!

David,
If you are still in the LA area and want pannier you could use the Pelikan
cases. Cheap, tough, lifetime guarantee. If they break they give you a new
case. I use these for sound and movie equipment.

Try LSC (Location Sound Corporation) or Cofey Sound. Both in the North
Hollywood area. They have Pelikan cases IN STOCK, most sizes.

Mounting them you can do a few options.
Try Dual Star.

Or call and ask around for ways to mount the Pelikans or go with
Givi cases, Hepco Becker or just buy the side racks and mount
soft bags like TourMaster Cortec panniers, most LA shops will
carry them.

Both these sites have tons of stuff for KLRs.

There are many other sites as well.

Sorry David but I have not been on the internet for a while.

I have left San Diego and I am currently in Lorreto on the Baja Peninsula. My bike is mostly kitted out but I could wait no longer for parts.

I got the pelican bags and they are great so far. They are pelican cases but I got them though caribou or something like that. I got crash bar and bash plate along with tank bag.

I was trying to get a top box but twisted throttle stuffed my order up. I was getting Givi top box and also wanted a centre stand. Unfortunately I waited for 5 days and because of the stuff up I would have had to wait in San Diego for another 5 days or pay for express delivery. I was eager to start so I left without.

Bike going really well although I am a little shaky on non sealed roads. Very shaky and nervous in fact. I met a guy in a hostel in San Diego that is riding from Quebec to Panama so we have been riding together. We will ride to La Paz and then go our seperate ways.

Enjoy the ride!!

Maurice

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
